Artist Bio

My work is a joyful discovery of the almost infinite connections and relationships between the processes of creation and decay, specifically in the history and culture of New England. It comes from my personal history, observations, study, and research of the physical world. It is in some way the pursuit of a deeper connection to the source of life.

The word “biophilia” (a term coined by the scientist Edward O. Wilson) describes what I have seen and felt my whole life. Biophilia literally means “love of life or living systems”. He also describes it as an “innate tendency to focus on life and lifelike processes.”

To me, when it all comes together—aesthetics, science, history, techniques— it tells a beautiful, and wondrous story, relevant, and meaningful. Every path I travel in developing a work of art creates a deepening sense of wonder of the complex interconnectedness of things that ordinarily go unnoticed. The thoughts, the technical process, the media, materials, and forms, are explored, integrated, and finally brought to fruition in the art.

Exhibiting my work adds the final element; sharing the discoveries, beauty and wonder with anyone who takes the time to look. In this way I connect with the human community and make my place in the world.
